Default Rewards for PvE Play

The whole question of what do you do with a high-level character after you have mastered the game is a conundrum every player faces. In GW, the answer seems to be "play PvP", but that doesn't appeal to everyone and the skills are markedly different from PvE. Now bear with me a moment, while a put together some odd pieces.

First, there are rushers appearing everywhere, hawking their wares. "Rush to Kryta 500g" I saw today. Rush to Kryta? Who the heck needs a rush to Kryta?

Second, the proliferation of elite behavior and the degradation of combat chat to name calling. If I was just learning this game, instead of playing it from the WBE, I'd be intimated by the behavior of the "real" players who demand that I read there minds during gameplay. I would probably only play with henches. You don't learn anything from playing with henches.

Third, the new system of rewards for PvP rewards players for engaging in combat in such a way as to advance their characters and attain something worthwhile.

Fourth, and last, as my opening comment says, what do you do with a level 20 PvE character when you have truly mastered the game?

My suggestions is:

--that a similar system of rewards/fame be put in place of PvE players;

--that every town have a "Learn to Play" district;

--that higher level chars who assist lower-level chars in completing missions out of these districts receive fame points;

--that fame points be used to gain something worthwhile for PvE players, perhaps unlocking a skill only attainable in this way, or purchasing 15K armor with just fame points and gold, or receiving an aura at certain break points, or receiving a special title, such as Sage or Roshi.

In other words, promote the spread of knowledge and congenial game play by rewarding those who help new players learn the ropes and teach them how to be better players.

My hope is that the whole concept of rushing for money would be greatly reduced. Frankly, some of the best times I had in Diablo was rushing people for free and teaching them how to play the game. New players are often grateful to learn from someone more experienced. The lore in GW is immense, so there is no end to what one needs to learn to be successful.

I'm very interested to hear what others think of this suggestion.

Peace

My role in Diablo II was junk collector after all the quests where done. I would spend hours running around looking for named to kill, hoping they dropped something nice for me to keep. When I got bored with that I would maybe "rush" someone or maybe grind levels just to interact with other people.

In Guild Wars hunting down a boss doesnt reward anything better than any other monsters, other than maybe an elite skill. Theres one thing that could change in order to make "old areas" more interesting, each boss could have a better chance (alot better than ordinary mobs) to drop a nicer item.

I wouldnt care one way or another if I had a title for helping others.

I believe the game gives plenty of "learn to play" areas through missions and quests.

At 20 theres always the temple for a challenge.

Cleaning the quest log is another.

Uncovering all the maps can be interesting, but no reason to stop for a boss unless its in the way(see above).

But then again, I play pvp too.

Yeah, nice points, and/but, I believe there is a major update coming which will be about PvE rewards.

By the way... speaking of fame points. They gain you ranks, right? What do you do with these ranks? I mean, other people can't even see what rank you are. Isn't it so? I'd like to see an 'info' window of every character. Just something like your [H]ero tab. All you can see in another character now is Prim./Sec. classes and his/her looks. There should be more.

I was accosted by three Rank 3 a**hats the other day. I noticed they were spamming the emote and didn't say anything. I thought it was cool. But then someone else asked what that was. I typed that it was the rank emote.

The apparent leader of the a**hat group promptly told me that he knew that and I should bow down to him because I was a noob. I started in on him by saying that he should go outside every once in a while because his skin was about 98% translucent.

Hilarities ensued, lol. All 3 of them surrounded me and spammed the emote. Acutally I didn't even notice because of all my windows being open while switching skills, checking guildies online, etc. I just noticed what they were typing in the chat box.

Needless to say, all 3 were quickly put on my ignore list.

As for the PvE reward system you wrote about, I like it as I also go to the earlier regions and help people to new areas. I will ruin a mercenary's day when they offer a run from Piken to Yak's Bend. They will charge 1p and I'll come right back and say I'll do it for all the Charr Hides that you get. Fair trade I think.

One thing you need to keep in mind is the exploiters. This needs to be separate from fame or rank. If not, PvPers will make ghost characters and grind their fame to the top very easily.

I really like the idea though.
